KAY KANDRA

Kay Kandra's artistic style fluctuates from the traditional to the impressionistic to a modified abstract. Always visually interesting due to various perspectives and compositions her subjects bring home the old-world charm and warmth much admired by watercolor enthusiast. Kay says "Watercolor has become a paradox; it's such simple chemistry resulting in the most complex manipulation. My aim is to return to the simple elegance of forms in space where color is light and light is color, all the while remembering spontaneity, crispness, economy of means, point of view, and sense of humor." Kay frequently develops a series of paintings from one source of inspiration, accentuating various aspect while changing the point of view or emphasis. In simplifying the palette at the same time, she can reveal the very essence of her subject. Combining these effects brings about unique results other unattainable.

An inveterate traveler, Kay has been inspired by her travels here and abroad. The results are three decades of exhibitions, including the White House, a sixteen year run of exhibiting at the New England Watercolor society (formerly the Boston Watercolor Society). Throughout the 1980's she continued her impressive showing at prestigious regional museums, art associations, and fine art galleries throughout New England. Since 1990 she has lived in Annapolis, exhibited regionally and painted broadly. In 1996 Kay won a fellowship to paint in Brittany, France from Maison D'Artiste de la Grand Vigne, a Museum in Dinan. The result of this trip was a showing at the French Embassy.

Further bolstering Kay's career and reputation is her representation in an ever widening range of public, corporate, and private collections. Her work can be found in collections of institutions such as Chubb Life Insurance Corporation, Nashua NH Public Library, US Department of Defense, the State of New Hampshire as well as many other corporate and private collections.

Kay Kandra maintains affiliations with numerous professional art associations. Among these are the Baltimore Watercolor Society, New England Watercolor Society; Associate Member, the American Watercolor Society, the Potomac Valley Watercolor Society.

We are very please to represent Kay Kandra at the Annapolis Marine Art Gallery.
