"WINDJAMMER IN NEW YORK HARBOR "

Patrick O'Brien's newest oil painting features an exquisite view of New York Harbor, ca. 1905.

In New York harbor, in the first decade of the twentieth century, an aged windjammer awaits a breeze, or a tow, to take it to the docks on the East River. Ellis Island is in the background at the right, with its newly completed Immigration Station designed in the grand Beaux-Arts style. The Statue of Liberty, at left, was almost 30 years old at this point. Boat traffic of many types fills the harbor with activity, and a beautiful three dimensional sky frames the idle sails of the aged veteran vessel.
